The intersection of art, nature and technological innovation reached new heights with the presentation of the work ‘Fairy Ring’ at the SMACH 2023 - Dolomites Biennial of Land Art exhibition. Inaugurated on 8 July 2023, and set against the evocative natural backdrop of the Prati dell’Armentara, in ValBadia, Lecco, this outdoor exhibition made use of RGPBALLS precision balls. These balls, combined with the revolutionary vision of artist Stefano Caimi, became an integral part of a work of art that celebrates and reflects the beauty of the surrounding nature.

‘Fairy Ring’, or ‘witch’s circle’, is a fascinating natural phenomenon in which mushroom circles form in the ground. Stefano Caimi has transformed this manifestation of nature into a tangible work of art, combining natural elements such as mushrooms and flowers with local legends and traditions. The result is a unique blend of reality and fantasy, of nature and human artefact.

And how could it be otherwise, when the setting of the installation boasts an astonishing biodiversity, with no less than 244 types of mushrooms and many other plant species?

This natural wealth frames the work, amplifying its resonance and visual impact. Cristina Trevia’s intervention, together with the technical support provided by RGPBALLS, ensured that every detail of the installation reflected the perfect balance between art and environment.

Underlining the revolutionary approach of this installation, the work used steel balls and aluminium bars. These materials, known for their strength and durability, ensured that ‘Fairy Ring’ would withstand the elements and blend harmoniously into its natural environment. With impressive dimensions of 11 x 11 x 0.6 metres (equivalent to 36 x 36 x 2 feet), the work certainly cannot go unnoticed and offers a new perspective on the surrounding nature.With projects like ‘Fairy Ring’, RGPBALLS continues to demonstrate how technological innovation can go hand in hand with the appreciation and preservation of the natural world.
