Industrial ceramic balls - features and applications
Industrial ceramic balls offer higher stiffness, lower thermal expansion, higher thermal and electrical resistance and better resistance to abrasion and corrosion than steel balls. Precision ceramic balls also tend to be lighter in weight than steel and can be made from a range of ceramic materials that includes Aluminium Oxide (Alumina / Aluminium Trioxide Al203), Silicon Carbide (Carborundum SIC), Silicon Nitride (Nierite Si3N4) and Zirconium Oxide (Zirconia ZRO2). They are manufactured in various precision grades and in a wide choice of sizes.
Applications of ceramic balls
Ceramic precision balls made of alumina are ideal for use in valves or pumps that will operate in aggressive environments, as well as water treatment. Those made from zirconia ZRO2 improve their overall hardness when subject to collision and are the best industrial ceramic balls for grinding and milling. Other applications include measuring instruments, flow valves and check pumps. Silicon nitride precision ceramic balls can withstand temperatures up to 800C and are often found in the aerospace and military sectors where they have a vast range of uses including special bearings, high-speed bearings and compressors. Silicon carbide ceramic precision balls also have numerous applications including pumps, electric switches, sensors and special bearings.
